Agrivida is an exciting new startup company developing traits and technology for agriculture in the area of bio-energy and renewable resources. We are beginning to build a team of experienced plant scientists and are actively seeking biologists with backgrounds and experience in genetic engineering of plants that want to play a key role in establishing the foundation of our plant biotechnology capabilities.   • Molecular Biologist. Agrivida is seeking qualified persons with experience performing some or all of the following molecular biology techniques:

    • polymerase chain reaction (PCR);
    • Southern analysis;
    • DNA purification;
    • DNA restriction and ligation;
    • gel electrophoresis;
    • gene expression in yeast; and
    • Western analysis.

    Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in biology or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment or independently.   • Plant Biologist. Agrivida seeks qualified persons with experience in the following techniques to join our Transformation Team:

    • Plant transformation and regeneration;
    • Molecular analysis of transgenic plants (DNA isolation, PCR, Southerns); and
    • Experience with greenhouse-related activities (crossing, monitoring transgenic plants, data collection, etc.).

    Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in biology or a related field with a minimum 2 years experience in plant transformation and regeneration. Must be willing to relocate and be able to work well in a team environment. While having a pesticide applications license is desirable, it is not required. An enthusiasm for working in the laboratory and with a team is necessary and demonstrated computer literacy and outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills are a plus.   • Laboratory Technician. Agrivida seeks an independent, hard working, detail oriented, self motivated lab technician. This is an entry level position with room for growth and advancement. Daily tasks will include:

    • preparation of media, buffers and reagents;
    • maintenance of equipment and instruments;
    • washing and sterilization of lab supplies; and
    • preparation of E. coli and yeast cell stocks.

  • Agrobacterium Vectoring Molecular Biologist. Agrivida seeks a qualified person for a full-time position on our plant transformation team. This position will lead a team in developing plant expression vectors for heterologous expression of recombinant proteins. Outstanding candidates will have previously made over 100 expression vectors and have experience with:

    • Molecular gene cloning;
    • polymerase chain reaction (PCR);
    • Southern analysis;
    • DNA purification;
    • DNA restriction and ligation;
    • gel electrophoresis; and
    • plant transformation and regeneration.

    Applicants should have an M.S. or Ph.D. in biology or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment and independently.   • Bioinformatics. Agrivida seeks a qualified person for a post-doctoral or full-time position in bioinformatics. Projects will include protein sequence analysis and design, gene optimization, along with promoter analysis and design. Outstanding candidates will have experience:

    • Coding in (Bio)Python, Perl, or similar languages;
    • Analyzing protein and DNA sequences (markov models, HMM, sequence alignment, MSA, motif discovery, codon optimization, primer design);
    • Mechanistic design and analysis of protein structures; and
    • Database design, IT and network support

    Applicants should have an M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, biology or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment and independently.   • Structural Biologist. Agrivida seeks a qualified person for a post-doctoral or full-time position to join our protein engineering team. Projects will include protein structure analysis and design, protein sequence analysis, and enzyme engineering. Outstanding candidates will have experience:

    • Coding in Java, (Bio)Python, Perl, PHP, C++ or similar languages;
    • Mechanistic simulation, modeling, and analysis of protein structures; and
    • Analyzing protein structures and sequences (CHARMM, GROMACS, Rosetta, markov models, HMM, sequence alignment, MSA, motif discovery)

    Applicants should have an Ph.D. in engineering, biology, computer science or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment and independently. A strong biology background is required and lab experience would be very beneficial. Demonstrated written, oral, and interpersonal skills are highly desirable.   • Chemical Engineer. Agrivida is seeking a qualified person for a position responsible for leading a group focused on biomass process development and optimization. The successful candidate will have had previous experience in ethanol production and biomass hydrolysis. Extensive knowledge of pretreatment methods, enzymatic hydrolysis, and plant cell wall biochemistry would be a plus. Experience performing some or all of the following would be desirable::

    • yeast fermentation;
    • biomass size reduction and pretreatment;
    • enzymatic liquefaction and saccharification; and
    • analytical polysaccharide analysis.

    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment. Prior industrial experience and supervisory responsibilities are highly desirable. Demonstrated computer literacy and outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills are also required.
