Senior Automation Engineer

Agrivida is seeking a qualified person to help lead our laboratory automation group. Running and scheduling automation equipment will be a significant portion of this position’s responsibilities. Attention to detail and a willingness to take on a high level of responsibility are
essential to the candidate’s success. Knowledge of molecular biology and biochemistry will be important for interacting with other team members. Experience performing some or all of the following would be desirable:

    * experience running automation equipment (Genetix QPix colony picker or similar, and Beckman Biomek liquid handlers including NXp, FXp, and Span-8 models);

    * cell-based protein expression and optimization;
    * molecular biology and protein analysis techniques;
    * basic computer programming (VBScript, HTML, Perl).

Applicants should have a M.S. or B.S. in chemical engineering, molecular biology or a related field and be able to work well in a team environment. At least 2 years (M.S.) or 5 years (B.S.) of prior relevant experience is desirable. Outstanding computer, written, oral, and interpersonal skills are required. Fermentation Lead Scientist

Agrivida is seeking a qualified person to lead our efforts focused on biomass fermentation development and optimization. The successful candidate will have previous experience in biomass hydrolysis and ethanol production. Extensive knowledge of ethanol production, microbial fermentation, process analytics, pretreatment methods, and enzymatic hydrolysis will be beneficial. Experience performing some or all of the following would be desirable:

 

    * biomass size reduction and pretreatment;

    * enzymatic liquefaction and saccharification;

    * microbial (biomass) fermentation.

It is expected that this person will spend 50% time in the laboratory but will also interface with external technical groups.  A significant effort will be in evaluating different batch conditions in shake flasks (studying pretreatment, hydrolysis, and inhibitor effects on C5 and C6 sugar utilization) using transgenic biomass and grain.  

Applicants should have an M.S. or Ph.D. in chemical engineering, or a related field, and be able to work well in a team environment. At least 5 years of prior industrial experience and supervisory responsibilities are highly desirable.
